Working Through Conflict Together: Listening to Understand
July 8, 2018 at 3:00 pm - 4:30 pm PDT
The journey of supporting a gender-expansive child may involve some interpersonal conflict within the family around how best to provide that support, even when everyone wants to do the right thing. To resolve conflict effectively, we need to understand each other. This workshop will introduce a form of active listening, often used by mediators, designed to help people get insight into themselves, each other, and their disagreement. Participants will get to practice using these active listening skills in a safe setting. We will also discuss conflict communication and resolution, including how our intersecting identities and experiences inform our approaches to conflict related to providing a supportive environment around gender.
