SUMMARY:From Conflict to Collaboration: Workplace Mediation Lessons That Apply Everywhere
DESCRIPTION:Discover the nuanced skills that separate effective mediators from the rest\, using workplace conflicts as a lens to explore universal mediation principles. \nThis interactive webinar delves into challenging aspects of conflict resolution—including proven methods for restoring trust between parties\, techniques for engaging unmotivated or resistant participants\, and best practices for creating written agreements that actually stick. While focused on organizational settings\, these strategies are directly transferable to family mediation\, community disputes\, commercial conflicts\, and beyond. Whether you’re new to mediation or looking to refine your practice across multiple contexts\, you’ll leave with actionable strategies for transforming any type of conflict into opportunities for stronger relationships. \nPat Lau has been a workplace mediator at Intel Corporation from 2010 to 2024. After his first conflict management class many years ago\, Pat became fascinated with alternative ways to address and resolve workplace conflict\, especially after discovering the understanding-based model. In 2013\, he co-founded and for over ten years led Intel’s Collaborative Mediation Program. This in-house workplace mediation program helped resolve challenging conflicts among co-workers\, peer managers\, team members\, supervisors\, and subordinates. \nJulia Myers is a highly experienced Employee Relations professional with over 30 years in the field. For the past 12 years\, she has specialized as a workplace mediator\, dedicated to fostering positive resolutions in complex environments. Julia currently serves as a Principal People Relations Manager at Genentech\, a leading biotechnology company. Outside of her professional life\, Julia enjoys the beautiful surroundings of Tahoe\, where she lives\, and cherishes time with her two grown children and two grandchildren.
