SUMMARY:Working with Lawyers in the Room: Part 2 (2025)
DESCRIPTION:Join Michelle Exline Minovi and Gary Friedman for Part 2 of Working with Lawyers in the Room.  In Part 1 we discussed how to establish agreements and expectations for lawyers’ participation that honor both legal advocacy and collaborative problem solving.  In Part 2\, we will explore how to actively engage the lawyers\, parties and mediator in understanding the law and its consequences.  Drawing from the Center for Understanding in Conflict’s model\, attendees will learn how to foster genuine dialogue and understanding within the complex attorney-client-mediator triangle. \nKey topics also include: \n\nRecognizing and working with the tension between positional advocacy and interest-based dialogue\nFacilitating communication that allows clients to be heard while respecting attorney-client relationships\nManaging moments when legal strategy conflicts with relational healing or creative problem-solving\n\nWhether you’re an experienced mediator seeking to refine your approach or new to mediations with participating lawyers\, this session will provide practical tools and insights for navigating these complex but rewarding mediations. Participants will leave with concrete strategies for fostering understanding even when the room includes zealous advocates. \nIf you did not attend Part 1\, click here for information about viewing it.
