SUMMARY:Beneath the Conflict: Civility Through Understanding Tension\, Emotion\, and Bias (CA CLE Eligible)
DESCRIPTION:In recent years\, as public discourse has become increasingly harsh\, there have been increasing calls for civility in many spaces\, including the legal profession and conflict resolution. True civility in conflict resolution goes deeper than surface-level politeness. This webinar challenges conflict professionals to consider carefully what civility means by exploring how productive tension\, self-awareness\, and acknowledging emotion lead to deeper conversations and better outcomes. \nJoin Melanie Rowen and Catherine Conner as we examine: \n\nThe paradox of productive tension: Why allowing discomfort in the room can motivate parties toward genuine resolution rather than superficial agreement\nEmotional Regulation: Distinguishing between feelings and behaviors that advance resolution and those that reflect bias and drive incivility and harm\nJudgment awareness practice: How recognizing our own biases and judgments helps us understand parties and other professionals with greater clarity and respect\nWhat lies beneath: Discovering the real interests and concerns that drive conflict—and\, if not surfaced\, can create civility challenges\n\nThis program satisfies the 1 hour California State Bar civility credit requirement* and provides practical tools for any conflict professional to eliminate bias-driven incivility through deeper self-awareness and more authentic professional engagement. \n\n*Legal Continuing Education:  The Center for Understanding in Conflict is an accredited provider of California Continuing Legal Education by the State Bar of California.  This webinar training is appropriate for both newly admitted and experienced attorneys and will qualify for 1 participatory CA MCLE credit hour. \n\n  \n\nPlease note California MCLE credit is only available for the live webinar and not for recorded sessions. \n*Please select desired ticket and quantity using the +/- feature before clicking ‘Get Tickets.’
