Real Talk: Addressing Racial Bias & Creating Transformative Work (West Coast)

May 24, 2019 at 9:00 am - May 25, 2019 at 5:00 pm PDT

Free – $750.00

How does one address bias, internalized racism, privilege, and power

when, not if, it surfaces in close partnership?

This workshop will engage participants in a conversation about the dynamics of being in professional and work relationships with individuals of different races and the care and attention deserved in order to grow. When differences arise, the discussion often revolves around the “issue” at hand, ignoring the many layers and forces operating below the surface and from the outside. Each person in the conflict is driven by what is important to them on a deeper level and is impacted by familial, cultural and societal forces, yet these are seldom explicitly examined.

realtalk-team-sitting-at-garys-office-200-pixels-revisedWe will look underneath the surface and explore the deeper meaning of conflict and the forces that influence it. Utilizing concrete conflict resolution skills, participants will engage in experiential activities that address understanding commonalities and differences across racial lines and how these can be the fuel for transformative work.

The training will be an intensive experience, combining presentations, teacher demonstrations, small and large group discussions, self-reflection, and role plays of real life simulations. Participants describe these different modes of learning and their interplay as enjoyable as they are engaging and rewarding.
